Traditional Uses
Indigenous Australians would cleanse a space of bad energies or spirits, or places where there has been conflict by burning (smudging) eucalyptus leaves throughout the space.
Eucalyptus camaldulensis is from the Myrtaceae family and can grow as old as 500 – 100 years old.
Eucalypts have been cultivated in many countries for their quick growth, sturdy timber, raw pulp material and extensive use in the food, perfumery and pharmaceutical industries.
To achieve maximum oil production and efficacy, Eucalyptus camaldulensis is best harvested in the cooler hours at dawn, when the oil glands in each leaf are bursting with oil. When the hot, dry winds arrive the oil content diminishes. Leaves should be transported for distillation before the leaf begins to ‘sweat’ and oil quality is reduced.
