Before its recent use in Aromatherapy, Grapefruit has been extensively used to flavour food and drinks, as a fragrance in cosmetics, soaps, detergents and perfumes.

Safety data / Precautions

Grapefruit oil is reported to be non-toxic, non-irritating and non-sensitising. Avoid during pregnancy.

Like most other citrus oils, grapefruit oil can be less stable than other oils and can deteriorate with exposure to sunlight, moisture and air. Discard if oxidisation has occurred (slightly acrid smell).

Tisserand & Young, leaders in Aromatherapy, report that the IFRA (International Fragrance Association) recommends if applying Grapefruit oil to the skin that will be exposed to the sun, grapefruit oil be limited to a maximum of 4%.
